چکیده

We present the results of a search for pulsed TeV emission from the Crab pulsar using the Whipple Observatory’s 10 m gamma-ray telescope. The direction of the Crab pulsar was observed for a total of 73.4 hours between 1994 November and 1997 March. Spectral analysis techniques were applied to search for the presence of a gamma-ray signal from the Crab pulsar over the energy band 250 GeV to 4 TeV. At these energies we do not see any evidence of the 33 ms pulsations present at lower energies from the Crab pulsar. The 99.9% confidence level upper limit for pulsed emission above 250 GeV is derived to be 4.8×10−12cm−2s−1 or <3% of the steady flux from the Crab Nebula. These results imply a sharp cut-off of the power-law spectrum seen by the EGRET instrument on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory. If the cut-off is exponential, it must begin at 60 GeV or lower to accommodate these upper limits.

On pulsed emission of TeV gamma rays from Crab Pulsar

We have observed crab pulsar in the TeV energy band using the Pachmarhi Array of Cherenkov Telescopes (PACT) for about 90 hrs. Our observations span about 6 year period from 2000 to 2006. In the past we presented evidence of pulsed emission of TeV -rays from this source while few other groups did not see any evidence for pulsed emissions at these energies. We have re-analysed our data using new...

High Energy Gamma-ray Observations of the Crab Nebula and Pulsar with the Solar Tower Atmospheric Cherenkov Effect Experiment

The Solar Tower Atmospheric Cherenkov Effect Experiment (STACEE) is a new ground-based atmospheric Cherenkov telescope for gamma-ray astronomy. STACEE uses the large mirror area of a solar heliostat facility to achieve a low energy threshold. A prototype experiment which uses 32 heliostat mirrors with a total mirror area of ∼ 1200m has been constructed. This prototype, called STACEE-32, was use...

Very High Energy Gamma Rays from the Vela Pulsar Direction

We have observed the Vela pulsar region at TeV energies using the 3.8 m imaging Čerenkov telescope near Woomera, South Australia between January 1993 and March 1995. Evidence of an unpulsed gamma-ray signal has been detected at the 5.8 σ level. The detected gamma-ray flux is (2.9± 0.5± 0.4)× 10 photons cm sec above 2.5± 1.0 TeV and the signal is consistent with steady emission over the two year...

Observations of the Crab Nebula and Pulsar with VERITAS

Observations of the Crab Nebula have proven to be the best tool to calibrate and to characterize the performance of a Cherenkov telescope. Scientifically, it is interesting to measure the energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula close to the inverse-Compton peak where a deviation is expected from the power law seen at energies above 300 GeV. Additionally, it is important to search for pulsed emission...

Very high energy gamma radiation associated with the unshocked wind of the Crab pulsar

We show that the relativistic wind of the Crab pulsar, which is commonly thought to be invisible in the region upstream of the termination shock at r ≤ rS ∼ 0.1 pc, in fact could be directly observed through its inverse Compton (IC) γ-ray emission. This radiation is caused by illumination of the wind by low-frequency photons emitted by the pulsar, and consists of two, pulsed and unpulsed, compo...
